Topic: ATI over nVidia ?

Just noticed it on Slashdot, and ATI has a presrelease about it. I know you are a hardcore fan of nVidia Doc, and a PC gamer so the XBoX might not be very much of interest. Although what do you think about it ?

Sounds like a bad thing for ATI to me. The XBOX is the worst selling console for all the money MS put into it. I don't see that changing with XBOX2. Maybe the next Gamecube or PS will have an Nvidia chip in it?

Like Sherlock said, I do not know if it's a good thig for ATi (or xbox for that matter ). I'm curious as to why Microsoft decided to go with ATi, instead of Nvidia..

Another point to make note of is: the best hardware does not guarentee the most sales in the console market. The PS2, from a technical standpoint, is the most inferior model of the current generation of consoles. I think marketing and time to market are the most important factors. Backwards compatabiliy will be one of the most important features of the next gen consoles in my opinion. If PS3 can play PS2 and PS1 games I am guessing it will be the most popular console and XBOX2 will fail miserably again.

yea, guess you are both right .. . it could even be a cutback for Microsoft to go with ATI this time.

Think we will know soon enough how they will look like, there are releases for small versions of the PS2 and the XBoX for the end of this year. . and the new consoles won't be long either .. .

Yeah that folder is open for anyone to read. That folder is part of the  whole 10 MB of webspace that my ISP provides. I just use it to put things online real quick for others to view. Browse at your leasure. Not a whole lot to see there though. I am glad you enjoyed the anti retrogamers site. I laughed my ass off at that one too. It has been around for some time. I am guilty of being a retrogamer. I still play Pacman and Starcastle on a regular basis. I think simple games are the most fun sometimes. I still play new stuff though . Speaking of new games, I should be getting Battlefield 1942 in a couple of days now (I ordered it from Amazon.com because it was $10 cheaper than the stores with free shipping and no State Sales tax!).

The only thing that counts for microsoft or nintendo is money, probably is ATI a lot cheaper than nVidia. The average person who plays on a xbox or gaycube don't care what's in their machine. They only want to play games that look great and give them lots of fun. And the games that attract a person the most, will let them choose a console. Look at the ps/2, it has the 'oldest' hardware and most crappy graphics of them all, but it has the coolest games (and a good marketing strategy). The sales numbers are still very high after all those years.

Yeah, I agree with you on the fact that people who buy thosen consoles do not care what kind of hardware is in there. I know someone who recently bought a ps/2. I asked him why and told him that for example the XBOX had a lot better graphics and resolution. He asked me what resolution was and told him to nevermind.

Well back in the days of the NES computer hardware was much more expensive than it is today. Nowadays there is no excuse not to own a PC that can play games way better than any mere console. Having said that I own a Gamecube. I got it for my kids and the exclusive Nintendo games.

I would say in this order:

Kids and Games. My kids never nagged me for it. I thought it would be a good system for them to play games on which would not intefere with my computer game time. I also like certain Nintendo games. I played the hell out of, and still play, Rogue Leader. I also like Smash Brothers, Metroid, and Zelda.  Other than that it's for my kids.  I don't play on it much, but it's good for a quick distraction.

nVidia is gonna do a smart move, check this link. Playstation is the best selling console ever and number 3 won't be less popular. I think in quantity this order will be on the long run more profitable than Ati's Xbox2 order.
