Thinking of D-Link Wireless
« on: May 28, 2004, 07:36:13 pm »
Heya All.

I'm thinking og getting Wireless,
The only thing that has kept me from investing so far is the slow speed of Wireless.
But D-link has launched the 108Mbps DI-624 Router running 802.11b/g.
And with the DWL-G650 PCMCIA adapter I can get a pure D-link system.

I know that most probably I will not get that kind of speed, but hey it is better than 11 Mbps that normal 802.11b offers.
And with the summer coming I would not mind moving the laptop into the garden. :-)

So now my question is.
Anyone have experience with using this product?
Range, Actual speed, Configuration etc...

And anyone know where I can get it as cheap as possible in Netherlands or Suroundings?

Regards.
Brian

you can buy 4 D-link routers, 2 access points, 3 high gain antenna's en about 12 PCI WLan cards from D-link from me . ... all 22mb

I am running with 3Com myself, we used to use the D-link's but they are really hard to setup.

Personally I don't care what speed they come up with. . I am not buying D-link again. .. it's the same a Linksys btw. . and I don't like that either. . ;)

You should go with Linksys. They are a great company with great support. Very reliable and super speedy. I found them to be alot better than D-link.

my experianse with Linksys isn't that good as yours I have to admit.

The routers don't seem to be able to route 8mbit at it's full potential. WLAN isn't as stable and they still have a few firmware bugs.

technically Linksys and D-Link use the same hardware I thought..

Support however is great for Linksys .. we have brought back a few of them by now and got a replacement every time. . :)

Must be some freak of nature event because my experience with Linksys is awsome! It dishes out speed like no other....wireless is the only way to go.....
Im a Linksys customer now and I have no regrets and they have given me awsome support and hardware.

I once had a D-link and it always broke down and disconnected on me for no reason. I always had to go to the master computer and pull the plug and then reconnect to get it to connect. Then go mess with the other comps to get them in working order again....it was a hassle to the max.
