Better card and lesser quality?
« on: June 01, 2004, 10:50:43 pm »
Ok, I bought a 6.1 Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 to replace my 4.1 Creative Soundblaster Digital. Because I heard that Audigy 2 was a good card, and you would really hear the difference, and I wanted to try out for the first time how a good quality card would sound for me...

But when I installed the card, installed the drivers etc. I was dissappointed in quite some things. Okay, some of the sounds were better, and games like Vice City completely adapted to it with much better sound, but:
1) Now when I hear sounds, they don't sound with so much bass and treble anymore (even when putting them high on both the sound mixer, and my speakers (I have non-creative good quality speakers (2) with surround sound and bass and treble control))
2) I seem to have lost much of the surround sound (This I noticed by the lessened difference between sounds when surround sound is switched on or off on my speakers)
3) Voices don't sound loud enough anymore in movie clips. Normally you would hear them very clear, but now their volume level is lower, it seems.

Anybody has any ideas?

Yes, quite alot of programs come along with it, I tried messing around with them, but it did not seem to have any big effects. Maybe I tried not all...

Here is a list of them, including all other aspects of the card:

o Creative Audio HQ
o Creative Diagnostics
o Creative SoundFont Bank Manager
o Creative Speaker Calibrator
o Creative Speaker Settings
o Creative Surround Mixer

Would try these above... especially the 4th and the 5th...

I reinstalled the card, and this time I followed every instruction precisely, and now:

Everything works much better.
1) Bass and Treble seem to work good now, althoug this card seems a bit more sensitive with putting those controls high then the previous card.
2) Surround sound seems way better now.
3) Voice sound in movies are louder.

And I used some tuning deviced you recommended to further better the sounds.

I don't think I have much problems with the card anymore, and it seems installing again did the trick.
But thanks anyway!:)

 ;D

EDIT: Well, normally I read it, but in this case there was only a digital manual on the cd-rom. So I read that one too late...
