Why is it that sometimes I open some game programs and then the screen blacks out and goes back to the desktop?

I could be you dont have enough memory to play that game, then you will see a black screen and then return to desktop... try rebooting your system, then close all programs you dont need, and try start the game again....

(what kind of games and what kind of computer do you have btw...)

Ah, memory, I got an IBM Thinkpad office-use laptop[from my dad's office] with really low memory, and I tried playing demos of games that needed quite a lot of memory, like the Hitman demo.

NP man... we will help in any way we can...

The newer versions of the IBM thinkpad could play some games... But if the system is older than 2 years... I doubt it will run games properly.

And if your memory is good, it might be your videocard wich causes the problem.

Maybe you can attach a dxdiag to your message...
