1067 Error when Installing AA
« on: July 07, 2004, 08:54:03 pm »
Hey guys,
I just downloaded America's Army: Special Forces. I went to install it, and I got a weird error.

1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime

I have my Viruscan disabled when installing, and I even disabled my Popup Blocker just incase.

Any ideas? I thought maybe somehow a file got deleted on my Computer that InstallShield needs. If so, where can I get it back?

I read that article...this is what I've found out.

C:\Windows\Installer <-- Does not exist on my comp

Start --> Run --> regedt32 --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InstallShield <-- Does not exist on my comp.

http://testdrive.mapinfo.com/TECHSUPP/MIPROD.NSF/0/8e1e1188a75388a285256cdb0066aae4?OpenDocument

Download and run the first download on this web page, ;)

If this doesn't work do a "Repair install" of windows XP.If you have problems doing this just ask me for a walkthrough.
Or google "repair install win xp"

If you don't already have it download the google toolbar from www.google.com,it's pop up blocker is good and the search bar is great.
Also download Spybot search and destroy app(freeware),and maybe adaware from www.lavasoft.com.I run adaware and spybot daily now and it usually finds data miners etc.

For the MSI Installer folder to be missing from your registry, either you deleted it by accident or a system crash caused it to be corrupted so that Windows can't read the file. You will have to re-install it,using the method above.

It gets weirder.

I download the Spybot, thanks for telling me about it.

I downloaded the XP file from the link and got this error:
Wrong OS or OS version for application

UPDATE: I also tried the download the bottom. Got this error:
The Windows Installed could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode, or if Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

Not yet, I'm using that as my last option.

This is due to a rights problem... make sure you are logged in as an administrator... else use right click to the exe file then the "run as" option

I've had issues with "rights." I am Computer Administrator. PunkBuster told me to enable a few things in Administrative Tools. Do you know what I need to enable?

If your logging on as Administrator then you should have access to all files and folders.
Go to Control panel, select files and folders click on the advanced tab and check the box show hidden files.

I still think that you need to do a repair install. It's the second repair option not the first,IE boot from CD with your win XP installation disc in the CD drive or DVD drive.
When it asks select install windows xp,it will then discover your present installation, then it will ask you if you want to repair this installation by pressing the R key ,press the R key.
It will then re-install windows.

Note: A repair install does not wipe your programs or data files,it just replaces missing or corrupt files for your system. So don't be afraid. ;)

if you cannot choose to login as an Admin, because its not in you 'user selection screen' of XP, you need to press 2 times Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then you get a login box, fill in your username: administrator and password: ****** and then is should work....
