Command & Conquer generals Fu**ing vídeo problem :(
« on: September 01, 2003, 01:35:44 am »
Hello!

Here are Dhoco X! :D

When posted a topic with a problem that i was having with the command & conquer generals... someone called me to post my problem on this fórum, then... here i am.

It's about the TWISTED image !!!

When I initiate the game, on the main menu, the graphs turns distorted and full of risks for all the sides, a part of the image gets white and later the game stops.

It looks like the game Black & White on windows XP without the patch ! If you had this problem with this game... you will know what i am talking about.

Somebody help me !!!! I'm becoming crazy !!!

Only COUNTER-STRIKE works on my NEW PC !!!

My pc:

- Motherboard Asus A7S333 AGP 4x with sound.
- Athlon XP 2000+
- GeForce 4 SE Mx 440 64mb DDR agp4x Tv/out Xpert Vision
- 40GB HardDisk
- 256mb DDR

The old computer where the game works:

- Pentium 3 700mhz
- MB compaq presário séries.
- GeForce 2 mx 400 64mb
- 40GB HardDisk
- 128mb SDRAM

ps: the other games is with the same problem...

ps2: I didn't take a Screen Shot because my game stops when i try to make something

Please heeelp me !!!

---> Thanks <--- Dhoco X, Brasil, August 31 ;)

As I thought...

The problem is with the Direct3D!

It was very strange only the CS works, but i perceived that it only functions right because of the OpenGL!

Then I find that the problem is with the Direct3D mode. that is the way that the other games function.

My CS stops and gives the same signals and twisted images just like the other games when in Direct3D mode...

But... iNeed help anyway !!!!

Dhoco X ---> getting crazy >:(

Could attach your dxdiag ?

Go to start => Run and there type dxdiag. Run the tests on the sound and video/display tab. Once done, on the first tab click the Save all info button. Save it as a txt file and attach it to your reply here.

Make sure you run the tests, especially since you think it might be related to Direct3D !

Attching the file to your reply would have been enough :)

Anyways:

1) Try older drivers from Nvidia
2) Try setting your desktop resolution to 16 bit, instead of 32..

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering):

Weird thing is that it usually happens with DirectX8, with the above solutions.... I'll try to look into it further..

Do me a favor and upgrade your motherboard chipset (from the looks of it, I'd say it's SiS)...

You can also try this:

Go into dxdiag and disable turn off AGP, Direct3D acceleration, and DirectDraw acceleration. Once done, reboot and re-enable them..

2) Try uninstalling your Nvidia drivers. Use
Detnator destroyer to uninstall and clear all traces to Nvidia. When done, install Nvidia 21.83 drivers (they have proven to work with XP and Generals).

3) Set your desktop refresh rate to default (16bit).

Do me a favor and upgrade your motherboard chipset (from the looks of it, I'd say it's SiS)...

The modelnumber of Asus mobo's can be decrypted very easily (I'll only mention the most common ones);
-The first letter says Amd (a) or Intel (p)
-The first number says the 'generation'
-The second letter says the brand/type of the chipset (v=via, s=sis, n=nvidia, b=intel BX. etc.)
-Then mostly a string of 3 numbers give the max fsb

i.e. A7S333 is a mobo for the 7th gen AMD cpu (athlon), with a Sis-chipset with a fsb max of 333(DDR)

But I agree with Doc, return the mobo to the shop and pick another mobo. Sis has terrible compatibility with lots of hardware, and it's not known as the most stable chipset. You can better take an Asus A7V333 / A7V8X (these are only a few $ or euro's more expensive) or if u got the money a A7N8X (<-- if it works, it's the most stable board I have ever encountered)

It could be due to DirectX 9.0b I've been searching and it seems it's very picky on the hardware. A lot of people suffer this problem, especially with the somewhat "older" video cards..

Sorry the flood !!!

I want to know the best MB model to my computer or a good MotherBoard that does not give any problems.

I was talking with the salesman and it it spoke that tomorrow it will have the models and that will be at my choice!

Then it wanted a general opinion.

Which model I must buy?

It is good?

Debtor one more time with you guys. ;D

Got myself a Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (with the nForce2 chipset), it works fine for me (not at the moment, but that's my own fault. wrong watercoolblock for my northbridge). It's stability is great, the dual-channel DDR give a little push to all apps & gamez. Even the onboard 5.1 sound works fine, not like those onboard AC'97 crap, but nvidia did a great job with that soundstorm system. The mobo has also got a good layout, big CPU coolers can be mounted with easy, by using socket or holes in mobo. I had a Spire Whisperrock III in the past on it, it's a large cooler with a 80mm !!! fan on it, fitted perfectly, it did not collided with memorybanks or capacitors. The only disadvantage is the passive cooled northbridge, with normal use it won't be a problem, but when overclocking you need to mount a fan on it to keep the temps low. And for overclockers it's got fixed dividers for AGP/PCI and my 1800+ was standard unlocked at the mobo. So no difficult pencil/glue-trick anymore.
I've got myself a lot of different AMD-boards in the past, but this one is the best I've encountered so far. If you want another mobo then my advice is to take this one  (or the non-deluxe)

Ok ! Tom. i will change my mobo ! Thanks everybody ! :)

Eh, you might want to try the options I gave first.

Also, try to revert back to a restore point where you still had DirectX 8.1..
