C&C Generals Lan Problem
« on: September 03, 2003, 11:53:54 am »
Hi, >:(

I've got a little 3 way PC lan set up trying to play a network game. All the machines see the game, they accept the host starts the game and only sees his progress bar increasing the other pc's are blank. On the non hosting pc's they see all the progress bars and go into the game, and then it comes up with a voting off disconnecting screen.
Any ideas ???

Is Generals the only game you have played on yout LAN ?

If you have any firewalls or virusscanners could you disable them, compleatly and try to play Generals again ?

Hi, No Virsus software or firewalls on the machines locally, but they are connected to external servers that protect them when they go online?

If that external server isn't one of those 3 machines an dnot between them on any hub or switch it should be ok. :)

Does a network game work between the 2 machines that can't connect ?
And between one of the non-connectiong and the host at this time ?
[ leaving a 3th one out in both cases ]

Are all Generals games patched to the same version ?

The machines are all the same patch..
It doesn't matter what combination of machines out of the three connect or host the same results apply. Just two machines could try and play a lan game and the same thing happens.
Very strange, thanks for looking into it :)

Which players appear to have left the game on the voting screen you get ?

And are all 3 versions of C&C Generals installed with the same serial code ?

If this is the first installation you might want to reinstall them and see if it has been a faulthy install.

Hi, Different serial codes on all machines, I've re-installed on one and it didn't help. They all used to work for a couple of months but now for some reason they've stopped! >:( On the voting screen you only get the option to vote off the non hosting connected pc..

Did you change anything on your system, hardware or software that you can remember just prior to Generals stoped working ?

And have you tried to play / host it online ?

Are the games patched to the latest version (for online play anyway)? And for LAN, do they all have the same patch/maps ?

Did you try to play it online between the time it started acting weird and now ?
And do other games online work ?

Think you might have changed a setting for your network a while back, mayby verry small. Something regarding conputer indentification, mayby network adapter settings. Did you install new sofware or installed it and un-installed it ?

Hello everyone.  I am having a VERY similiar problem and have looked everywhere for solution; no help.  3 e-mail to EA tech, 4 phone calls; not working still.  OK, so I have two machines (an XP and an ME) behind a linksys ethernet (non-wireless) router.  I'm trying to play a LAN game.  I have two legal copies of the game w/ diff. serials.  Did a clean install and patched to 1.7.  Great.  Both run single player fine.  Both can join the same game lobby and talk to each other in network play, click accept, etc.   Everything is fine until the host hits play and then, regardless of who is the host, the XP machine only shows its own progress bar while the ME machine shows both.  Eventually, the game says that both have disconnected.  Now, here's the REALLY weird part.

For the first, and ONLY the first LAN game I tried with these two systems, everything worked fine.  Then, after NO changes to the best of my knowledge and a few hours later, this problem has started and won't go away, even after clean re-installs, testing direct play, opening all sorts of ports, and a few dozen other things.  EA doesn't seem to have any answer, if anyone here does, please help!  Thanks so much.  I can also post pics or even a FRAPS movie of the error happening if necessary (although movie is more than 2 megs prob.).

ok .. which type of switch / router do you use ? and have you tried to enable UPnP on it if it's a router.

I don't really understand why you have enabled port forwards ?
