A VPN server is used if you would like to create a
local network although this over a greater distance, saying from London to Amsterdam. And making that in a secure way.
For internet games it will be mostly useless, because you are creating a
local network. Not an internet connection.
You use a router if you want to connect more local computers to the internet.
So in that way I was puzzled to see you could use a router or a VPN server for the same function.
For network games to work on a VPN network you will need to host your own server. And if the game is internet enabled serving it on a VPN instead of the internet is besides the added security to a VPN network no different.
Which game would you like to play , and to what are you refering to with
GOL ?
ok, stupid question on my part. . . it's about Generals . . .
A VPN server would enable you to set that game up through the internet with other people without an online server, just like a local network. But you will need a possible extra 500mHz for the VPN server / client on each computer. Even more if you are running with a Celeron or other low cash CPU.If one of you has a WinXP computer you could try
this[

Not shure if Win9X would be a good OS to set up a VPN server with, as it's network protocol isn't as good as NT versions. I don't know of any free VPN servers that really work, or work
ok for that matter.
Don't think a router would help you anything if you want to host an game over the internet.
