I'll admit that at times I have burned a few games. However, I do purchase software that I like. A friend turned me on to BF1942, so he gave me a copy to try out to see if I liked it. If I liked it, I would buy it.
Game loaded up just fine in V1.0. Once I uploaded the patch, the game wouldn't even start up. After speaking to a friend, he said that most likely the patch added security to the program to check the disc for some corrupt data (which of course wouldn't be there because it was duped). This of course is an easy piracy method that stops Joe 6-pac from copying the game. However, for me I wasn't exactly sure of the problem; I thought it could be hardware but I wasn't sure.
I didn't want to go buy the game and find out it was a hardware problem, not software then be out the $45 cost of the game since you can't return opened software. So, I got the original copy of the game from my friend, and it turned out the burned CD was my problem.
I tried to post this information on EA's site but the moderator deleted them.
Since then, I bought the game for myself and I love it.
I also installed a No CD hack that stops the game from constantly checking the CD drive which I find annoying when my fast system gets slowed by a CD queing up. This worked like a charm and DRAMATICALLY improved gaming performance.
I don't believe in hacking or cracking software because the guy who wrote the code should be paid for the code. However, when a software company adds piracy measure that compromise game speed and usefullness then I have a BIG problem.
So... the morale of the story is... if your BF1942 won't even load up (the logo appears for a second, the CD spins, and then you get kicked back to desktop with no errors) then you are trying to play the game with a burned disc.
Solution: buy the game
Better Solution: buy the game, and download the No CD crack (use google search engine to find)
No scruples solution: don't buy the game, use your No CD crack, and then go to Hades in a hand basket!
