I recently fitted a new heatsink to my CPU , it was a cooler master, one question  I have though is the shiny copper coloured ring on the bottom of the heatsink, should I have used thermal paste on this area or not, because there were no instructions about this included ?

I did smear some thermal paste on it before fitting, but I'm not sure whether or not this was ok.
I'm still getting some strange problems with my pc freezing up.

Unfortunately I have a PC chips motherboard which is a M810 LR rev 7.1.

AMD K7 socket A 1.3 Ghz 133Mhz.

Any advice apart from buy a decent pc would be apreciated. lol ;)

Unfortunately, I have no experience with AMD processors, but I'm sure someone who has an AMD will be able to answer your question :)

yea. . sell it. . .

just kidding ;)

If there wasn't a sort of sticker on the bottom of the heatsink you should put paste on that area. Just make shure it's just on the CPU core and not toutching anything else of the CPU.
Expect anything, and life will become boring...

The copper coloured ring is the copper core of the heatsink. The best thing to is to put a little drop of cooling paste (take Artic Silver III) on the core of your cpu, and spread it out till you got a fine layer on the cpu-core. Use a credit card or simular to spread it. Then put your cooler on top. !!!DON'T PRESS TO HARD ON THE HEATSINK!!! when you add the heatsink, you'll crush the core if you add to much pressure.
