Command and Conquer Generals WinXp Network
« on: September 16, 2003, 05:09:39 pm »
I have 2 computers both with WinXp the 1 is the master and provides the connection through a adsl pci card. The second computer goes through a network card to a hub which doesnt need any settings stored on it the computers do the job. From the hub it goes to the master. I used Window Xp's Network Wizard to set up my network. Every other game works expect generals. The problems i have is it says i have a firewall when it is clearly disabled (on the master and the 2nd 1) or it can go to the screen with the coloured bars and get stuck there or it can get into the game and fail by popping up the disconnect screen.

I have tried port forwarding (im not sure what ports to forward) and the firewallportoverride with the port forwarding.

If I get it correct you are sharing a DSL connection with a build in WinXP feature with 2 computers. The second places behind the WinXP saharing PC with an UTP connection ?

Can you connect Generals from the second [ PC without the DSL modem ] when the first computer is doing nothing ? So only using the second computer ?

Which other games have you tried that did work that way ?

Not shure but I thought to remember that Generals didn't work that way .. I'll try to find the topic again. . .

The 1st computer does nothing all it does is send the internet infomation to the 2nd computer the hub is basically part of the wire but it is still a bit different than connecting them directly together, it doesn't work at all whatever the 1st computer is doing

I dont know whether it is a utp connection i know it uses tcp/ip and i used WinXp to set up the connection

Other Games That Work:

Myth Of Soma (http://www.mythofsoma.net)
Soldier Of Fortune Platinum Edition
Conquer Online (http://www.conqueronline.com)
MSN Messenger V6 Games

I am not sure but:

Legend Of Mir (http://www.legendofmir.net)

these are the ports Generals uses, although from experiance you learn that it isn't always is limited to the ones EA techsupport mentions.

TCP ports:
80, 6667, 28910, 29900, 29920

UDP ports:
4321, 27900

what do you mean with load up the internet ?

could you try to play Generals online from the computer that is now sharing you internet connection ?

an I presume you have more computers hooled up to it, hence the HUB in between it ?

I need to speak to my friend (i think he uses a router instead of a hub thats what i thought the problem could be) But i havent got the money to pay for a router as my dad bought the hub.

I only have 2 computers, i thought you needed a hub but reading more i have found out that you dont. The computers are both WinXp and they use Internet Connection Sharing. The computer that provides the internet can connect up to Generals; the other computer relies on the ICS computer for the internet. I hope i have put it in better words this time.

I have Norton Internet Secruity but i disable the firewalls on both computers and it doesn't work

A game did work once but 45mins later on it failed and every other game before and after that game has failed completely. What happens at the moment is that it can get to the status screen just after loading then my green bar gos across the screen and the rest dont then it goes into game and does the d/c screen.

I did a test with my friend and he says that on his side he gets the 'this person has a firewall' when they are both disabled.
