Windows ME expires ?
« on: September 16, 2003, 05:21:42 pm »
A friend of mine rang me today, apparently his version of Windows ME has expired, it tells him he should contact his vendor ?
As I've never had Win ME can someone tell me what he's talking about, and how I can fix it.

At the moment he can't use his pc. ???

Has he got a trial version? was it a pre-install when he bought his pc? Did he ever installed a beta?

I think it was a trial version.

Then he has to buy ME and reinstall it. Or he buys another os, like XP home/pro

I don't think he's got a normal or full version.
I've never heard of this problem either.
But that is what his windows error message states !  ?
He said he'd had it about three years, if that's any help.

the windows error messages are just for fun ;)

3 years seems to be a aufully long testing licence. . .

Windows 2003 server had 2 versions of release. One with a time limit, and one without. Lucally I know one of the Beta testers with Microsoft who got a licence free unlimited version. . ....

Are you absolutely sure that it's a message of Windows ME itself ?

Well not until I see it myself, but as he said he can't start up his comp, then I would imagine it is.

The limited trial version of Windows 2003 server did the same. Overriding your MBR moking shure you can't get it out. . and then just crashing when the trial period was over.

Do you know if he has made a bootdiskette for his system ?

Hi reggaeman,sorry I didn't answer before.
Click on Start/Run type in dxdiag.
Then save the report once you've run all it's tests.
You can then attach the file on your next post.

Any probs just send me an IM or post it on this thread.ok
