Comp shutting down.
« on: November 11, 2005, 06:09:15 pm »
Hey. Well heres the problem.

I turn on my comp just fine, and everything works ok.

however, after a period of time my computer just shuts down without any reason or warning.

I havnt changed anything for a long time or installed anything for ages.

i thought it might be overheating, but ive just opened my comp and found all fans are working.

i have no clue why its doing this. any help?

What happens when you turn it on again, does it shutdown again ? If so, after a shorter period, or about the same ?

Its just completly random. However i think this might help, this morning it decided to do it again, so i took gryphons advice and checked the event log right after, and found this.

then try this:

close the case
when your computer shuts down, directly power it on, and get into the BIOS (hit del for setup or something like it ;))
then check your hardware monitor in your bios (you might need to search it but think logically :D)

Some where here there is a cpu temperature and a mb temperature..

can you tell us what the temp is? and what kinda processor unit do you have??

as a solution, you might try to set a threshold in the bios a bit higher because it could be that there is a threshold set here, to protect your hardware from overheating..
so if your cpu gets above lets say 40 degrees your bios causes an interrupt which shuts down the system.. so if you set your threshold higher here, it should work properly..

btw, its just a thought what could be the cause... but its worth trying i think ;)

yeah i know.. but using a pc is automaticly some kind of magnet to dust..
and dust in a fan is not good.. so you might also consider, because you have already opened your case, to take it outside (when it does not rain ;))
and blow gently onto the fan of your cpu and eventually also your powersuply fan..
just as long till all dust is gone..

The problem is located in the north or south bridge of your PC, if you have a micro ATX tower, (not a full size one) i would most likely be that the dust has gotten to it and there is not enough air flow.

if you have a fan cooled northbridge you must service the fan so that it runs well.

if your computer continues to shut down, consider upgrading or getting a new case. tie all wires back and suck out all the dust.
check that your ram isnt too hot either.

any probs you can pm me
