Who's the Best?
« on: May 09, 2006, 08:15:36 pm »
Hello again,
I constructed my own custom computer last summer and it has worked out quite well. Everything seems to be running fine and it has been a good experience.

However, I was wondering (for the future), if anyone knew of a company that allows you to nearly customize all components of your computer, but builds it for you (Like Dell, HP, etc.).

uhm.. the local computerstore??

Because if I go to the computerstore down the street here, I can tell them which mobo to put in, which pocessor, which graphicscontroller, which memory, which harddisk, even which case

So I think I would walk there.. :P
But it could be this is a little bit expensiver than Dell's bulk computers,
At a local store the service is normally very good, waranty is also good here, completely customized, and also here you can try to get it some cheaper...

Dell sucks :P

Where do you live? If you live in the Netherlands then you might want to try out this store:
http://www.maxtron.nl/ (site is Dutch)
I stumbled upon it once when I was toying around the internet looking for a good configurator. They seem to have a pretty advanced configurator, but it isn't a store where you can stop by (you order, they send the delivery)
Now I don't know anything else about them, only what a little bit on what I've seen on their site. I don't have any experience with them, but you might want to try it out.

Dell sucks :P

Could be, but at least it sucks VERY QUIETLY  ;D

I'm not in for big company computers, but there are 3 pro's to give them:
* the darn things normally run silently
* the OS will cost you practicly nothing (that is if you want to use a legal OS)
* The guarantee might be longer then customised pc's

cons:
* If you want a "good" system, it will cost you
* not fully configurable
* way too much rubbis in your OS
* Hard to upgrade
* .... and they suck  ;)
