cheers jungs!
I'm contemplating on buying one of the two consoles - and don't start screaming that I should buy the Xbox 360 - I wont! I simply can't afford it and I can't afford keep spending money to bring my pc up to date.
I'm leaning mostly towards the PS2 - but what's your preferences?
pros and cons everyone?

I've been browsing games - and am allready a metal gear solid and final fantasy fan - but Black looks great as well. And Morrowind will still be played on my pc - I have tons of plugins I wont live without.

I own a PS2. And for the new console I am lurking towards the XboX360. Not the PS3. Although I keep myself from buyin gone untill the PS3 is in stores and decide then. For now, PS2 has Shadow of the Colossus and Killzone. What else do you need [ yes, Ghost Recon 3 for the XboX ]

499$ and 599$ for the PS3. Depending on the version you get. No way I am gonna spend that amount.
Gryphon is going for the 360 end of this year when MS drops the price.

if you havnt bought a 360 i suggest you wait but me being the compulsive spender i am bought it as soosn as i could. wich was a big waste of money for as far as i can see into the future. so i have 60+ old xbox games only five of wich are backwards compatible (bc) wich is really lame. so they are collecting dust in my closet. they say they are working on more bc games but the last update was like four months ago and no news about more games being added so my advice is dont buy 360 yet. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htmsee if your games are backwards compatible if they arent be prepared to spend $80+ on 360 games also final fantasy XI $15 US a month on top of reg xbox live cant play with out paying. but 100000+ multi player action rocks

i cant say that i regret i just think i should have waited till the systems and games got a little cheaper. everything else about it is great (ie) ability to play music and images off of your pc, abitity to download trailers and demo's the reputation and the family settings allow you to choose what type of people you would like to game with for online play.
all in all a great system but a lil exspensive and they need to work on Backward compatibility list.

Me personally I am waiting for the next Nintendo system, I believe it is called the "Wii". It will be the cheapest new system this year and the system won best new game system at the E3 show this past May. The 360 does indeed have nice graphics, but it still can't compete with a moderate PC and for the hi price the 360 goes for I can't recommend it. When the price drops to around $250 I would say it would be worthwhile, but that's just me.

I do agree with you there 6, it's the price/quality ratio with the 360 (and possible P3 aswell) that just doesnt do it for me ... dont get me wrong; some of the games that are platform only (Ninety-nine Knights) really look good and sound interesting, but buying it for a few specific games alone? No, not me ... I would go for the general feeling I'd get at the console .. and thus far I still like NIntendo's best ...

I am not sure what you mean by "Gamecube enough said". There are a lot of unique games on the Gamecube that cannot be found on PS2 or XBox.
PS1 was a much better system than PS2 was as far as a hardware release is concerned and only marginally better than its bigesst competitor the N64 (lack of CDROM is what killed N64). Gamecube technically was superior to the PS2 so to say that Nintendo is a has been is not true. The Nintendo DS and GBA are still number one as far as handhelds are concerend and if Nintendo can pull off some of the things they have planned for the Wii I think we are going to see Xbox 360 and Nintendo being the dominant console systems and Sony slowly fading away.
I only care about gameplay and Nintendo has been innovating in this area for decades now. All I see on the Sony platforms is more of the same. Long cutscenes that are visually impressive but hardly interactive. I guess what can be said about Nintendo compared to the other game consoles is that Nintendo is more about function over form. To me, how well games play is more important over the games story or the amount of detail in the graphics.

OMG, PS3 all the way!
ok, so it hasn't come out yet... so what?
yeah, i'm a hardcore Sony fan, and probably always will be. To me, the PS2 has always been better with graphics than the other consoles, and the diversity of games is MUCH greater. Plus, there are tons of games you can't get on the other consoles (Ratchet & Clank FTW!!)
yeah, i'm gonna shell out $600 for a PS3, but hey, free internet? best graphics, 40 gig processor? wireless controller with movement sensors? Ratchet & Clank: 5? hell yeah bitches!!

While the PSOne and 2 have been great successes I doubt that the PS3 will be as popular this go around. The PSP is a great example of what the PS3 will do. Both the PSP and PS3 are not focused on gaming so as a hard core gamer that should have you worried from the start. The XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii will pick up a lot of market share this go around. Sony has become way too arrogant of late and that will be their undoing. If Sony is smart they will learn from their mistakes and be competitive again during the next console update. The future for PS3 seems to be decided already.

Sony is trying to push the PS3 as a PC/multimedia center that does everything. Sure it has the most powerful hardware for gaming, but the main thing that is pushing the cost high is the BlueRay DVD player built in. A lot of people will buy a PS3 just for the BlueRay player since the PS3 is cheaper than the only other dedicated BlueRay player by $400 (US). Large sales of PS3 hardware will not necissarily mean large sales in game software and many publishers may decide to pass on making a game for the PS3 mainly because of lower software sales. The PSP is a perfect example of this. PSP hardware sales are pretty close to Nintendo DS hardware sales, but the Nintendo DS has a lot more software sales than the PSP. Why is this? It's because Sony has marketed the PSP as a multimedia device first and a game device second. There aren't as many games out on the PSP as there are on the Nintendo DS. Of course this may not play out the same in the console area, but I think Sony is going to lose a lot of momentum this go around. Time will tell.

oh, i get what your saying. But i think that the PSP's low software sales also has to do with the fact that a lot of publishers didn't make games for the PSP, and stuck with the PS2, which far more people have. I think it'll do just fine, as lots of people will buy the PS3, so there will be a bigger audience to sell too. Also, it might have to do with the fact that Sony isn't really a "handheld" company, they should stick to consoles IMO.
but as you said, time will tell.

I dont know if you already bought it, just my thought on the whole ps2 vs xbox thing, ps2 has a huge amount of games availeble, but the xbox has a few hundred as wel now, so what is really important is what games you are looking for, and what you want to pay for them. Here the xbox has a few advantages, it supports a harddrive, so you are able to put a 200GB or maybe even 250GB drive in it, you can load your copies on there via the network drive and use it as a media center for divx etc as well. So PS2 if you want specific games, xbox if you want to have mucho fun and functionality, it really is a PC
[edit]Edited it a bit to get all the mod chip stuff out.

I've decided to go with Xbox360 - I think the PS3 is waaay to expensive compared to the price of the 360 + most games will be released to both consoles.

personally I still think the 360 is worth the price and the one you should have. The games however are a rip-off.
And even with a price of 60 Euro's (20 Euro's more then the PS2 version) I am thinking of buying Lego Star Wars II for the 360 and not the PS2.. .

Now that the Nintendo Wii price has been revealed I must say it is the most attractive of the next gen consoles at $250US. I will be picking one up on November 19 to be sure.

For me the new controller is the last reason to by the Nintendo console. The idea is great, although I doubt it's for me. A year ago I thought I whould buy a PS3 when the new consoles are out. Now I think Microsoft really make a great product with the XboX and XboX live. If I am still gon'na buy a PS3. . . unless they give them away with my new phone. . I doubt it.
