Battlefield 2 original dvd not readable?
« on: June 17, 2006, 08:52:15 am »
Ello amigos,

When I tried installing BF2 from dvd, it wasn't detected by my plextor 712A.
So, I upgraded firmware to latest, updated windows, my vid-card, etcetera..
All up to date, dvd still not read by plextor, getting orange flashing led.

So after scavenging the Net, I found that apparently virtual devices ( i.e with Alcohol120%, or Deamon-toolz) would mess up original game installs.
After removing my viirtual drives, led turned green, dvd was readable, so I installed without any problem.
Then it asked me to reboot, which I did. And now I have the same problem again, led orange, dvd not readable.
If I start the game, it tells me to insert dvd...

Okay, I uninstalled Alc120, deamontoolz, dvd-decrypter, everything relating to copying and virtual devices. Even removed all from registry as well.
Still same problem.... the Easy-info thing from EA doesn't show any issues either.

btw: the dvd works fine at a buddies, both install and playing... so it must be personal, as in just my pc...
other original dvd based games work fine too, i.e Star Wars Empire at War.

anyone familiar with this?

Tia, Hablah

Start => Run and there type msconfig. Check the startup tab :)
If you have any doubts about any of the services tehre, just google them. Most of them ,if not all will
have an explanation :)

right, checked that again but as before couldn't find anything suspicious there...
another thing I tried was, creating a new profile in windows, and tried from there but no joy either..

weird though that it was readable one time after disabling my virtual devices, (that's when I installed real quick), and after reboot same issue again..

*sigh*

anymore suggestions?

whaha, yeah would really want to buy a new pc, then again i'd like to eat this month as well  ;)

I spoke with Doc, and he said to install the patch and try again.
So, did that and dvd still wasn't readable. Thing is, before this, I reinstalled deamon-toolz again.
So I unmounted the drives, and disabled it. Inserted dvd .....and it worked!!

been practising in single-player ever since..

still a bit of a mystery though, cuz what if I didn't get lucky in installing BF2 in the 1st place?
then patching it wouldn't be possible. might still be sumtin with those virtual drives....

in anyway thanks,

seeing y'all in battle soon!!
