God..not again..
« on: August 28, 2006, 04:09:28 pm »
Well after having escaped PC problems for a few months..its decided to return..

My computer is randomly *restarting* this time.

The first thing I thought it might be was temperature,so i downloaded SpeedFan and this is the result:

As far as I can see, all the fans are spinning...so maybe it's not heat? I dunno..
I've run antivirus and anti spuware checks and its all good..
I've made no changes at all and it seemed to have started to happen sinse I got back from my two week holiday..

This is really beginning to irritate me, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I've attached my Dxdiag aswell in case you need it.

Restarting is Windows' (XP) way to avoid the blue screen of death. That's a pity though as that screen can provide useful information.
To disable Windows from restarting after a critical error, and instead show a blue screen with error:
Right click My Computer -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings -> System Failure -> Uncheck "Automatically Restart.

The blue screen might contain some useful info, like driver malfunctions and such.

Are you saying that those blue screens would replace these restarts?

Not totally. You only get a blue screen if there has been a critical error, so you still have to restart your computer manually. Windows restarts automatically by default, but this way you may miss the information in the error.
