It could be a memory issue..

Have you got more than one memory slot in use??
So if you have, try to remove the one in the 2nd slot, then boot.
If problem continues replace the remaining one by the one you took out and try again...

never had... indeed :P

how much memory do you have on those 2 chips..
probably enough to remove one and still run windows ...

because you formatted your system and did a fresh install it is very unlikely to be your OS.
have you installed some foreign software? or is it just plain windows?

I have had some problems alike these, some new memory chips and the problem was solved...
so you might try it though..

check out following page : http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php

It sais probably a hardware or driver problem (loosly translated: a hardware or software problem ... so could be anything)

There is a freeware memorychecker that runs from floppy wich you can download from microsoft, but you have to have a computer to download it with in the first place

yust take the memorychip which is in slot 2 out of the computer, boot, and see what happens
if the problem is solved, the memorychip you have in hand is dead.

if its not solved replace the remaining memorychip in slot 1 with the one you took out of slot 2
if the problem is solved, the memorychip you have in hand now is dead.

if problem still occurs it is
or: both memorychips are bad
or: some other problem...

Thats where i'm talking about yes...

not usb memorysticks... but indeed sdram, ddr etc.

and normally they can be different, the mobo will normally shift the fastest one down to the speed of the slowest one..
but as long as the mobo supports all the types which are placed in the memoryslots, it will be possible to use them at the same time..
