I'm not playing it at the moment, but I used to play it very often. I must have mapped every system in detail by now. A great game!
I never used mods (except for trying out a few) but I know one huge modding site:

Would you be at all interested in playing online sometimes? SP is good fun but raiding cargos and missions are so much better when you play with people/people you know.

I used to play it online alot, the problem was mainly finding servers who didn't lag too much and were not modded thus that new players started out millionaires, taking out all the fun in the game.
But yea, I could try playing again.
