General + ZH Problem
« on: November 11, 2006, 11:44:15 pm »
Okay, I just installed both Generals and Zero Hour.

What happens when I start Zero Hour up is the small ZH screen comes up, then it goes to the bigger one and stays there, without booting up the game. Scrolling the mouse over the screen makes it come up with an hourglass screen.

Both Generals and Zero Hour do this. I ran the patch externally, installed, and still the same issue.

I had these running on this system before I started upgrading. Changes since then are as follows:

Home Edition ---> x64 Professional (checked Generals with x64 compatibility, and it's supposed to run without issue)
6100 Integrated ---> 7950GT
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 ---> Audigy
Installation of a 120mm blue LED fan

Attached is the dxdiag and photo. All other games, including FEAR and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare run without flaw, maxxed out. And the nVidia drivers are the latest, to the best of my knowledge (installed the card five days ago).

So any ideas?

I think you'll have to de-install the "Installation of a 120mm blue LED fan" ;D

Seriously, couldn't find much wrong with the dxdiag. I tried the link of the pic, but nothing shows. So I'm not sure what the exact prob is. I did
see that you have 2 soundcards installed. You may want to try and shutdown the onboard one.

Another thing you may want to try (for arguments sake) is to lower your res to 1024*728

I took off the onboard soundcard, and deleted the program associated with it. Also, I took off any of the virus scanners I had, lowered it to 1024x728, and ran it -- no go.

Have you tried installing just Generals, without Zero hour ? If not, could you give that go ?
