Doc's new rig
« on: July 04, 2006, 07:18:20 pm »
Just asked for a price quote from my vendor for the following:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700, 1066Mhz, Boxed
Motherboard: Asus P5N32-SLI DeLuxe
Graphics card: Asus EN7950GX2/2PHT/1G
Harddrive: Western Digital WD1500AD Raptor X (3x)
Harddrive: Western Digital WD5000KS
PC case: Thermaltake VE2000BWS
Power supply: Thermaltake W0116
Memory: Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C3 (2048, 2 modules of 1024 (x 2))
DVD re-writer: NEC ND-4550A

Obviously the cables will be NEON cables :)

All in all, it's gonna rock :P

Quite expensive. It's not like I picked 2nd or lower choice hardware :) You'd be looking at + 3000 Euro ..

Very nice indeed, but bit to expensive for my financial situation.  Was looking at a more mid ranged rig

- Intel Core 2 Duo 6400
- Asus P5W DH Deluxe
- Geforce 7900 GT
- Seagate 7200.10 Sata (250 Gig)
- 1024MB Twin2x DDR2 C5 6400

Should cost me around 1100 Euro.

Just need a good soundcard now. Any thoughts ?

Not a bad choice of hardware.

As for a soundcard, I always go for Creative..

Yea, the good thing with good soundcards is that they not get old so quickly (like videocards) because usually a newer card only improves some aspects that would only apply if you would have a full speaker set with your computer.
I have good experience with my Creative Audigy 2, it ~90 EUR back then 2 years ago. I would look for something similar like that. Mixed with some good speakers it is good sound.

Now that motherboards with the Nvidia 680 chipset are released, finally my system comes together.
Today my brand new
overclocked XFX GeForce 8800 GTX arrived. Can't wait for the other parts arrive.
Will keep you posted when things arrive ;D

That's cheap and a good configuration, even when it is Dell ( :P)
Good that Danish is another germanic language (they appear all the same), so I can read the specs.

I have a widescreen laptop myself, and although I accepted the widescreen with difficulty at first (the rest of the laptop had good specs) I've become to tolerate it. There is more support nowadays from software (i.e. games) for widescreen monitors. And yea, movie video sizes better fit!

So Doc, does that mean you can now run two next-generation games at the same time? Playing only one game at the same time not exciting enough for you? ;)
