Intel P4 3.2Ghz, 800FSB
« on: June 26, 2003, 06:51:38 am »
Intel has released their final P4 product, the 3.2Ghz, 800FSB. Final ? Yes final P4. The next Pentium will be the 3.4Ghz, named Pentium 5. The latest 3.2Ghz has been tested against the AMD Athlon xp 3200+. Tests can be found here.

Does AMD have noting to compare to this monster ? Well, most likely (and hopefully for AMD fans) soon, when they'll release their new processor. Unfortunately for AMD, Intel has also announced that their P5 will hit the market this year (Q3 - Q4). The battle continues :)

How much wil a P5 cost? Price is important to me and Intel is way too expensive at the high end. AMD is still king for el cheapo's like myself. :D

I appreciate the fact that Intel is the most stable and fastest, but I have no problems with my low end 1Ghz Duron running with, gasp, 133Mhz SDRAM!

I think no one will deny that Intel is more expensive. At least my self being a hardcore Intel fan won't deny it. Fact remains that for the performance user, it's currently (I can't make that clear enough) the fastest you can get. And if AMD brings out a chipset which is faster then the high end Intel, I'll be sure to report it as well ;D

You play a lot more games than I do so I can see why you want the fastest.  I have always dreamed of getting a really souped up system, but my paycheck seems to go to all the family expenses. One day in the future I may get the system I have always dreamed of. For now I must remain content with medium to low level components. Hell medium to low level nowadays is actually quite a bit of processing power.

True, very true. I think when people buy a new system, they need to ask themselfs what they're going to use it for and customize their pc components on that. Unfortunately, there are to many slick sales men (women) who always seem to lure people into buying more expensive ones...

btw, the new P5 may cost less, as they are smaller and have a different production process, therefore reducing Intels production costs (stated in the article I linked)...

I guess I should read that article then!  ;)

You have been making me read a lot today.  >:(

Very informational though so I should not complain.  ;D

The thing is, i always start out with a desire for a small upgrade.

I end up with a long wishlist of high-end components. You can't buy the best memory without a new motherboard which requires a new proc. And while i'am at it, i  should buy a silent proc-cooler, etc.

Yeah, I do the same thing. It's really hard trying to stick to a budget when you know adding a few more dollars here and there will make the system that much better. The problem is those few dollars here and there quickly add up!

With me, I buy a new pc if I notice that some games could be much better on a fatser system. The only requirment for my new pc is, it has to run all games excellent, hence why I always end up buying the fastest (and most expensive). However, I don't care that much about money.. I've got far more things that I can worry about :)

That sounds bad. Of course I just had a motherboard "blow up" on me recently.  See for yourself :

I am curious how all these pieces of hardware died on you.  I never heard of any one losing a sound card let alone 2.

and I thinks your screaming after you discoverd that was enought to compensate that ? ;)

I have seen a grafics card fitted just slightly out of place in a PCI slot ones. . burned out the card and the slot with it. Was kind of funny to see the guy all supprised because there was smoke comming out of his computer. Emagine the look on his fase when he opend the case. ;D
He even was to parelised to turn his computer of when it happend, so the member here with the name rottevis just pulled the power cord out of the socket. ;D
Expect anything, and life will become boring...

Yup I remembered. It was in the good old days, the time of Token-ring networking & no AGP sluts yet & trying to play the original Command & Conquer on a network.

So Gryphon, me and 2 mates from school were playing the original Command & Conquer («---- the game ruled), all went well for a long time, but after a while I smelled something, no It wasn´t me (english translation of RotteVis = Rotting Fish), so I yelled: "Something´s on fire!!!!!!" Everyone around jumped under the table to look wat is was, and then we saw thick black smoke clouds coming from 1 pc. The owner of the pc starting tripping, the host of the mini-lan was running around in panic in the room, gryphon was laughing his ass off and I thought by myself that I was to young to die, so I pulled the power cord out to save the day.

We opened the case after it cooled down and we saw the S3Virge© completely molted together with the upper PCI-slut. I still bang my had for not taking a picture of it and the face of the owner.

The problem was caused by the fact he moved his PC on a bicycle and some components shook out of place, including the Graphics accelerator.
Since that time, he´s never been on a lan again.

NOW I understand your avatar RotteVis. That sucks about the components coming loose. I guess that's why AGP slots have an extra clip on them now.

I dream getting the P4 3.2Ghz and 512MB RAM or 1GB RAm, instead, I'm stuck with this crummy 890Mhz Celeron 126MB Ram 32MB Video memory CPU, next year will be different.
