« on: July 08, 2003, 02:48:56 pm »
Ok, I have had trouble enabling internet connection sharing and I was wondering if anyone can give me a tutorial/link on how do do this.

Useful information:

2 computers, both using Windows ME
100Mbit LAN
Freeserve anytime connection

If I need to include other stuff just say.

BTW: If this is in the wrong section them please move it, thanx.

Here are some links about the subject:

How to ICS

How to use user profiles with Internet connection sharing

Btw, you might take this in consideration. It's an issue where computers running directx 9 and having internet sharing enabled can't join a game.

You posted in the right place.

Are you asking how to share one internet connection on mutliple machines via a cable/DSL modem?

I would also  like to know are you using a router or a hub (switch) for your LAN?

I am guessing you don't have a router. If you have a router it is very easy to get all your machines on your network to shar one internet connection. Most routers have DHCP enabled by default and can automatically assign IP addresses for all of  your machines that are on the LAN (assuming they are all plugged into the router). You would simply connect your cable/DSL modem directly to the router and you are basically set. With a switch you have to use one PC on the network basically to act like the router.

sorry I haven't replied (I forgot the url  ;D)

I am not sure what you mean by the term "router or a hub (switch) "

I think I have a network hub, where all the network cables go into.

I am using a 56K connection, so would the hub help?

Edit: You say directx 9 causes gaming issues? Does that include Directx9a?

The article states DirectX 9 or later...

If you are considering using a dial-up modem I suggest you read the steps described on this page:

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/dialup/sharingdup.htm

They cover using a router as well as a hub/switch. I have only used a router myself.
