Generals: Slow Network play?
« on: October 11, 2003, 06:03:40 pm »
This isn't really a problem, but it's still annoying.

Has anyone found a way to set the game speed for LAN play on Generals (Zero Hour)? All the computers are 2 Ghz or above, and decent graphics cards. The network's 100mpbs, and any other game runs at a great speed..but this one. It dosen't lag..but the speed seems to be running much slower than even the default Skirmish speed.

This is unrelated..but is there a way to disable the swear filter? Leave it to EA to censor you without even giving an option to turn it off..even when you're not playing online.

Thanks in advance.

A virus scanner can be the cause of a laggy network based gameplay.
Thos this only happen with network games or is internet gaming also effected ?

Not shure on the second, will need to look it up. :)

I've made sure the virus scanners were disabled.

It's not a lag problem..the game runs fine. It's just as the game speed itself were turned way, way down.

Has it been doing that from the start ?

If so you could look at he speed settings.for the online game and the connection settings [ usually slow / normal / fast ]. They might be on another default value then the scirmish settings.

It's been doing that ever since the game itself came out.

Thing is, I haven't seen a slider bar..or anywhere to adjust the MP game speed.

Quite a few. Warcraft 3, UT2k3, Starcraft, AVP2. Can't really think of a lot of the rest at the moment. We've never had a problem with it.

I don't play online..but it's through another card, which is usually disabled when we're playing on the LAN.

It bothers me because it's not lag..the screen dosen't jerk, or freeze, or anything.

Three.

One: P4, 2 Ghz, GeForce 4 MX 420
Two: P4 2.3 Ghz, GeForce 4 MX 440
Host: P4 2.5 Ghz, GeForce 4 (Not sure which, at the moment)

The lowest ammount of RAM is 256 on the first.

have you tried playing between just 2 of them ?
If so I presume that didn't solve it ?

It didn't.

It's an in-game issue, apparently. EA just didn't include a speed-setting for network play, and must've just set it to 'plod'.

That's actually one of the reasons I uninstalled the game the first time, and let it sit for months..

You might want to try it one just 2 computers to see if it is an defect in one of them.

Could you play a game online and compair the game speeds ?
