number6, thanks for the update !
All help is welcome. Though, I have got it managed by windows with ME, but have to admit, when I used win 98, I did not allow Windows to manage it. As you said, It is worth a try !

Concerning RAM, and the e report being correct, look at what I copied below, remember, the game ran fine on this !

RAM : 127 MB Total
0 MB Free
Virtual RAM : 371 MB Total
242 MB Free

Oh, one other thing, do skirmish games give you the same problem ?

I have done most of the stuff that I have seen in the forums and on the FAQ.  I have not tried skirmish or on-line.  I have only got 56K where I live.  I have added all of the same information to my open problem ticket w/ WW Tech Support.  Thanks again, Nyar.

Ok, but try the skirmish mode, see if that works (as for 2 or 3 users now, the lock up appears only to be in campaign mode, but work fine while playing skirmish).

Keep us updated with what tech support says !

number6, I see you are using voodoo3, but not the latest drivers. What version of the drivers are you using?

Well Im back with a lockup problem.  The game freezes on the skirmish and multiplayer player selection screens.  The game worked fine with my Geforce 2, but has this lockup problem with my Geforce 3.  I have adjusted the hardware accleration in device manager, adjusted the refresh rate of the monitor and adapter, reinstalled the game, and reinstalled directx 8.  I still can not fix the problem.

Here is my specs from the EZ program from WW.

When you changed video cards, before swapping them, did you set the display adapter in windows - control panel - system - device manager to vga default ?

This might get funny... I went to the visiontek website and under the post of "game specific lock ups" it says:

"2) Contact the video game manufacturer for updates or patches to resolve problems. You may also review the web site of the game manufacturer for possible FAQs or troubleshooting tips. These tips are often found in the "tech support" or "support" section of their web site."

correct me if Im wrong...but is not wws statement "check with your videocard manufacturer" ?  :D

Killwithsound, did you try this:

"Run uninstall program for previous video card drivers, then reinstall latest drivers for VisionTek graphic accelerator. You may need to boot into safe mode to uninstall the drivers for the VisionTek card and your old card and then perform a "clean install" with latest drivers posted on our web site."

I am trying that as we speak.  I doubt that it will work though.  I had done a clean install before, but that was with Nvidias reference drivers.  I am downloading Visionteks drivers, but Im pretty sure that they are one and the same set of drivers, but Im giving it a shoot anyway.

Killwithsound,

Just a thought that popped in my head, but have you considered what the power requirements for the Geforce 3 might be? It may be trying to draw more power from your motherboard than the Geforce 2 did and your power supply might not be able to handle it. what is the power rating of your power supply? Is it at least 300W? I know this sounds like a crazy question. If all of your drivers are up to date, that makes me start thinking about the hardware.

To support what number6 just said, copied below from Visiontek:

"5) The VisionTek graphic accelerators powered by NVIDIA’s GeForce chip have an appetite for power. VisionTek recommends system with a power supply 250W or higher.

6) Your motherboard must be capable of providing adequate voltage to the AGP card. The AGP 2.0 specification requires 6A at 3.3V for the AGP socket and 2A at 5.0V for the AGP memory. The VisionTek GeForce will consume up to 6A at 3.3V and 2A at 5.0V when running video intensive applications such as 3D games."

nyar,

This site that was posted by Chis from Westwood is a good link:

http://www.gamers-ammo.com/v3.html

It has voodoo3 drivers all the way back to 1.00.

I am downloading a file from there now.

Yes, I am in early today. I want to leave work early, It is Friday.

I just tried the clean install, and no luck.  A strange thing occured though, the display was, (for the first time,) using the resolution that I had selected for the game.  Before with this card and the old one, the display was on a constant 800x600 res.  The game would always play at the resolution that I had selected though.  Anyway I digress.  About the power issue, all my other games work fine with the new card.  Max Payne and Anarchy online, as well as campaign mode for EB4D.  Also I like to add that I have adjusted my desktop res to match the game res, no luck.  And I have made it not match as well.  Still no luck.

Thanks,
Killwithsound.

Im afraid that the 1.04 drivers are just too old, and may not be compatible with too much other games. Untill the tech support will tell me to do so, I will not. If they will tell me, fine.

alley_cat,

I play a lot of games and these drivers work great. The newer 3dfx drivers caused problems for a lot of my 3D games like homeworld. So I went back to the older drivers and have not had a single problem. The only game that has a problem now for me it "Shogun: Total War". There is a known incompatability with the Voodoo chipset and this game. When it rains in that game the rain droplets are not translucent and appear as black dots. I have tried every Voodoo driver and none of them fix this. Since to my knowledge new drivers are not being made for the voodoo series of cards I will probably be getting a new video card eventually.

well, I have talked with the "telerom" tech-support once again (they started to recognize my voice already), and i asked them also about the voodoo3 problem on E:b4d.
they got a special patch for it, which solve the problem.
call them: 09-9712606
tell them raymond sent ya =)

number6, superstitious as I am, I will only use the 1.04 as a last option, and if the tech support will tell me to. At the moment I started talking to them and hope we can work something out. I also have glsetup that I think that works only with the latest version of the drivers. Thanks anyway.  :)
I called the number you gave me and left a message (since It is Friday today) and hope they will answer me soon.

You know my problem about the 1.05 drivers, and Im not going to even try the 1.04 until no other option is available. could be that the 1.04 also will not support my computer.
number6, can you give me other examples of new 3d games that work for you with these drivers (B&W, Startopia etc..)?
Thanks.

This whole issue with locking up is getting weird...

"all my other games work fine with the new card. Max Payne and Anarchy online, as well as campaign mode for EB4D"
So, Killwithsound is able to play campaign mode, but not skirmish...Alley and jeromeku are only able to play skirmish and not campaign mode, -x-ray is not able to play skirmish and campaign mode ...ehrr..*has a strange feeling like his head is spinning around*...  :)
In the meantime, we will continue...
