Wolfenstein - Enemy territory
« on: July 13, 2003, 05:08:28 pm »
You can download freely (and legally) Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory (Click on enemy territory in the title bar).

It's really fun to play online. It's basically Battlefield 1942, but without the vehicles.

Enjoy :)

Well it is basically a full standalone game that allows you to play new Return to wolfenstein multiplayer scenarios. So you don't need the original game to play this multiplayer expansion. Apparently new enemies were added as well as weapons. Graphics are also improved somewhat. It is really a good deal if you like multiplayer first person shooters.  I never got into multiplayer with Return to Wolfenstein, but I have heard that it is quite fun and popular. I don't know if Return To Castle Wolfenstein  was ever available for sale in your country SireMcDeath. I had heard that the German government would not allow the game in country due to the Nazis references in the game.

The game is quite large to download, over 200MB. Hope you have broadband, though I expect you do Sire.

You can compare it to Battlefield 1942, but without the vehicles and more weapons for infantry.

It's online multiplayer only though (which I don't mind)..

The download is something around 260MB so yes, broadband would be welcome :)

Not shure but think it possible to buy it in Germany. If not, nothing is keeping them from crossing the border and getting a copy over here . .

The game versions that are due for Germany are usually adapted versions. With less blood and gore effects in them.

Yes.. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is allowed in Germany and I own it, too. In Germany all these games are reduced a lot so we can't see nazi-flags for example or blood. But since there are bloodpatches etc. I don't care. Why shouldn't I see a nazi-flag? I'm a student of history, so I've seen a lot about this ;)

I fact Generals is completely forbidden here in Germany because it's too real. Some days after the release it was forbidden to sell Generals legally. But who cares if the Netherlands are just half an hour by car??  ;D

My little brother played it. And he gave me a good argument why he returned to Wolfenstein, and doesn't play ET anymore:

He says that at RTCW you only met people who had bought the game and really want to play it on the way it was meant, while people who are playing ET without having RTCW have not payed for it, and they are often annoying, because it is not a game where they paid a price for, so they are not playing it serious.
Better said: On RTCW the real "wolfers" play, while you encounter many annoying people on ET, because that was free for download

What are your thoughts about that?

You state a good point, I must admit there are a lot of lamers playing the game. What I mostly do is get on a server play, when someone is going lame, and u are on a server with people who really want to enjoy it, then he'll be voted out instantly. If he isn't voted out, I'm on my way to the next server. Sometimes u got a 'good' server instantly, sometimes only after hours. But it's a great game, so in my opinion it's worth the effort

Sure, there are lLamers/n00bs/ and what not you call it, but you need to find the good servers, mark thems as favorite and you're set. I have found several good servers, which that particular group have no chance in spoiling it.

I wish they would have finished the single player game instead of just releasing the multiplayer version for free. I would pay $50 for a sequel to RTCW. Wolfenstein has always been a favorite game of mine. From Wolfenstein 3D  to Spear of Destiny and now RTCW I have thoroughly enjoyed the series.  I am just not much on online multiplayer games. I love LAN games because you can talk trash to your friends while you play. I can't stand playing with people I don't know. I have tried many games online Emperor, Starcraft, Homeworld, Quake 2, Klingon Academy, etc... and I did not really think it was much fun. I guess you get more of a challenge than the game AI. I wish game designers would put as much or more effort into the game AI as opposed to the 3D textured graphics.

Try using a screenshot program then. It's stores them already for you, and you can make more at the same time. Good for old confused Docs :)

Is it just me, or has anyone else getting online with the game (I can't see any servers) ?

This is a known problem, if the master server is too busy, you won't see anything. The only solution is Or to wait and try a couple minutes later Or enter the ip-adres manually of the server you want to play on
