Try again the memory stick is probably not  located correctly in the socket.

yeah, someone said that I should put the 512MB in the first slot (where my 128MB RAM) is...although I don't know how it'll make a difference...

Do you think I should pull the 128MB out and insert the 512MB only?

One more question:

I checked the memory module:

it says on one of my modules-

J7F1

Type: DIMM
Speed: 50ns
Installed size: not installed
Enabled size: not installed

and I checked my memory controller:

supported memory speeds: 70-ns, 60-ns, and 50-ns
Maximum memory module size: 256MB

The one I got was 512 MB with 64x64-7ns DIMM

I think I got the one that's not compatible... :'(

Try it ! you might be lucky. It won't harm it .

Tried it, it didn't work,

Tried to insert only 512MB, the only result is that the computer made beeping noises.

Those beeps will indicate that there is something wrong.

Could be bad memory, could be it can't handle 512 MB sticks. ..

Looks like you will have to exchange the 512Mb stick for a 256Mb one.
Oh well at least you know now about upgrading ram and taking your computer case off. ;)

yeah, I guess that's the reason why I don't feel so bad, anyways, I don't know where to start with that memory now. I'm thinking of buying a 128MB PC133 SDRAM now.

I checked the Intel site and found a PDF saying it supports between 8~256mb, so mineral can max have 512mb in his pc (2 x 256)

Heh, long time i've been here, reading my posts gave me nostalgia of the times when I didn't know anything about computer hardwares. I'm still amazed how much I have learned in one year about computers, and now i'm helping other people  :)

Also, I replaced both sticks with 256MB RAM sticks so now it's maxed to 512MB.
