NVidia Graphics Card Problem
« on: December 31, 2003, 08:05:43 pm »
I have the ASUS GeForce FX 5200 Model V9520/TD Video Card, ASUS X Series Model A7V8X-X Motherboard, and a AMD Atholon Processor 2200+. Whenever I play Homeworld 2 I get an error message as soon as the game comes up saying my Video Card Drivers are Invalid and that I need to download new ones. When I skip that message another message comes up saying my Video Card is running in PCI mode (should be running in AGP). I can skip those messages, but while playing the game will just crash to the desktop. It also crashed with Empires: Dawn of the Modern World. I have version 52.16 drivers. My DXDIAG is attached.

Can you re-attach your dx diag ?

Try the new Detonator drivers 53,03 according to the release notes, they fix several game related issues.

Also check that AGP is enabled in your BIOS.

The only way I know that the AGP is on BIOS is that in BIOS under "Primary VGA BIOS"  is set to AGP, instead of PCI. Where can I get the Detonator Drivers. The DXDIAG is in the next reply to this message.

you can save your directX file as a TXT file with dxdiag and use the attach function here to attach the whole file. :)
Expect anything, and life will become boring...

Ok, when I got the Detenator Driver the Message about inadequate drivers went away. Now there is just the message about the AGP in PCI, which is effecting performance, I haven't had any lock ups recently, but I'd like to figure out why the card won't run in AGP mode. My DXDIAG is too big for the attachment. If you still need it, I can email it to you.

All we want is the text output from dxdiag not the actual program. I just ran dxdiag on my system and the output file is only 53KB that is a very smal file to add as an attachment. I just attachmed mine to demonstrate how small it is.

I try to attach, and the file just wont attach. Its only 46.8 KB. I put it in the litte box at the bottom, and when I hit post, it's not there.

Save the dxdiag text to your desktop, then type something above in the message window, then click on the browse button at the bottom and navigate to your desktop, find the file and double click on it, it should then automatically upload the file to the forum.

I got it, had to change the name. Also, my game started crashing up again, but I got the invalid drivers message to go away.

Is your FX card AGP or PCI version ?
If it's AGP then it's not enabled in the BIOS.

Enable agp in your BIOS

The only option that I can use with AGP is "Primary VGA BIOS" and that is set to AGP.

It's the ASUS Model X Series A7V8X-X. It has AGP 8X Support. Here's the site >>>> http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7v8x-x/overview.htm

I've been reading about your Mobo, apparently it has a problem with the AGP port.
Which Bios version do you have ?
It might be worth updating the BIOS.

This might sound strange but update your sound blaster drivers at creative.com.
Apparently they also cause issues with this MOBO.

Ok, I' gonna update my SoundBlaster Drivers, my BIOS Version is ACPI BIOS Revision 1006.

Atomic....I saw in another post you said the Detenator drivers were no good. Should I get the Omega ones?

Well I always use them, so yes I would recommend them.
The bios you have is quit old, they have released 1010 or even 1011 I think, but I think you have to update the versions one at a time.Maybe Number6 or Rottevis can confirm this before you try that.

Have you ever updated (flashed a BIOS) ?

Yes, I have flashed a BIOS before...can we confirm I have to do it one version at a time?

Went on ASUS.com....they only have up to Revision 1007

I have A7V8X-X
A7V8X has version 1011

Oh Ok.If you read the release notes at ASUS for the 1007 version, maybe they mention what it fixes, not sure though.
I would say try the omega drivers first and the sound blaster drivers, if they fix the problem , then problem solved.

Ok, I'll get the Omega Drivers, I have the sound blaster drivers, if the AGP still doesn't recognize, I'll flash my BIOS for version 1007.

Just a thought , do you have Norton Anti Virus installed ?

You could maybe try the default Bios settings to see if that helps.

No, anti virus isn't installed...the Omega Drivers didn't help reconize that the Card is AGP, I'm gonna go and update my BIOS.

Just updated my BIOS to 1007. Still doesn't show my card in AGP mode. I attached a new copy of my DXDIAG.

The VIA Drivers allowed the card to run in AGP mode, but now the games crash as soon as I start playing. I even changed the BIOS version back to 1006 and it still crashes.

The Omega drivers screwed up my comp when I put them on. I reinstalled the games and I'm gonna play awhile. If the game cuts off I'll get back to you guys...thanks for all of your time and help so far.

The crash is really odd. Sometimes the game runs less than a few minutes, and sometimes it will run for hours at a time. The games I'm playing are Empires: Dawn of the Modern World, and Homeworld 2. I currently have the Detenator 53.03 Drivers on, the Omega Drivers screwed up my computer. The manufacture of my equitment, ASUS, has terrible tech support and I haven't got any answers from them. Any information you need to know I can give, I have the newest copy of my DxDiag attached.
