Athlon 64 and memory
« on: February 05, 2004, 02:46:19 pm »
I was reading Toms hardware and noticed an article about the Athlon 64 and memory. It seems only a few boards perform well with memory.

The problem is that PC3200 isnīt still an official JEDEC standard, thats why you see on the website of some manufacturers which PC3200 modules work perfectly (i.e. Asus).
But I still canīt seem to get why ppl buy a 64bit CPU in a 32bit era. Plus the fact that they buy a lame single-channel chipset for it. Its like buying a ferrari and only use it to get some groceries around the corner.
My opinion about the Athlon64 is that ppl should wait for Mickeysoft to present a retail 64bit OS (not a beta, cause we all know the horror of MS betaīs) and the Socket 939 for AMD (which has a dual-channel memory interface, thus increasing the performance dramatically).
This are just my 2 cents...
