Why did you get a 350watt, instead of the 400watt ??

I checked at Newegg, it seems as if 350w had more variety and a good price than the 400w.  :-\

So will the motherboard (Abit) in retail have its own backplate? I checked the computer cases and it all had the same pattern (sound jack being horizontal with the other plugs) will the sound jacks in motherboard were vertical (sticking up).

Okay, I'm confident that the motherboard will have the backplate, now one to moniters. Is this a good moniter?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-189&catalog=19&depa=1

i want the mointer cost to be under $200 but not cheap that it'll "yellow".

I would choose not that monitor. I would try to look for one that has a dotpitch of .25 (which will most likely will result in a smaller monitor).

Unless you specificly want a 19", then I think this will be the monitor for you considering your price.

Btw, do remember my warning about the PSU when you're going to build it. I honestly think that you should go for the 400watt. I'm sure most people here will agree...

Well, the only good priced case I could find with 400w was this:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-154-013&catalog=7&depa=1

I'll be most likely installing 2 more fans (they're WAY CHEAPER than I thought).

But first, I need to know what "mm" it has to be, the information didn't give out what size of fan can be installed.

Paranoid question #1-

The case says it accepts ATX motherboards at 10.5"x12.5" inches; however the motherboard is about 12"x10" Yeah, it's sounds stupid and the whole question is stupid, yeah, the numbers do match (12"=12.5"; 10"=10.5") but it's on the opposite places, do I have to care about this or should I just forget about it and think simple?

As long as the case is ATX compatible, you should be fine :)

What's the benefit of a sound card over integrated sound? better sound and performance? or is an integrated sound just about does it?

I'm not much of a sound fan, but I think it'll be nice to have one. What good sound card should I get? (under $150, under $125 is recommened).

If yes, is this a good one?

The onboard sound card (intergrated) isn't cutting it in games. If you want a good solution, get an expansion card (eventhough you only use headphones).

The Creative one you've linked is a good card.

And dont forget to disable your onboard soundcard in your bios if you use a pci soundcard.

okay, I have loads of question. I'm building the computer in 2-3 months:

P4 2.8Ghz
1GB PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9800XT
80GB
Motherboard with 865 chipset.

now about the PCI-E

1). When will it come out (with the motherboard)
2). When will PCI-E compatible cards come out?
3). Will it be necessary to have a PCI-E card to play games at high settings with good performance for 2004-2006?
4). Does games even use the 8x-32x bandwitdh?

When do you recommend getting the PCI-E motherboards? (because i'm predicting when it comes out it's going to be mad expensive).

Also, overtime, will 9800XT have more performance than the 9800PRO?

I wouldn't worry to much currently about it. It'll need time to be introduced, adapted by the public and implemented in program features.

When would I recommend it ? Not sure, I can't honestly tell how things are going to work out in the near future. I doubt anyone will be able to predict what's going to happen in due time.

As far as your ATi question goes, yes, the XT version will have a better performance then the Pro version, but that said, the XT version will be more expensive.
Here's a test which includes both cards.

okay, i got a question about PSU

Okay, the PSU my case will have will need to power 4 case fans, a motherboard (including processer fan), 2 CD/DVD-ROM drives, 1 SATA HDD, 1 floppy drive, and FX5900Ultra grahpics card. Will the PSU able to handle this? if not, someone answer these questions below:

1. Do all PSU's have the same deminsions like nearly all the motherboard has?

2. Do PSU's have it's own category such as how the mobo has ATX, AT, microATX, etc.

3. Does the case influence the size of the PSU I should buy or does all the case have the same space to put the PSU in?

4. what 400w-450w PSU do you recommend that goes well into this case (please make it under $70):

www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=11-144-071&depa=0

Thanks for the help  ;D

Long time I updated.

I successfully the computer about two weeks ago. Internet is set up.

Of course, there was a catch. The graphics card came somewhat DOA, so I returned it for a refund and ordered Radeon 9800XT. It's about to arrive in a week, and i'm using the GF4 MX440 SE PCI I bought for my old computer 4 months  ago. It's able to handle BF:1942 and BF: Vietnam so far.

Thanks so much for the help  :) This was a great experience
