Samba 2.2.8a with Windows XP
« on: September 09, 2004, 11:34:46 am »
Working with a network here...
Now I need to map a network drive in Windows XP.
The server is a Samba 2.2.8a server. Windows XP needs some regkeys fixed to be able to map that drive...

These are the keys we have adjusted on the xp machine

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\Parameters]
"EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters]
"requiresignorseal"=dword:00000000

Anyone can help???

euh. . . what is your question ? :-\

When connecting to some SMB servers, such as Samba and LAN Manager for UNIX, you may be required to send unencypted password. This setting enables that functionality.

Open your registry and find or create the key below for your Windows version.

Windows 95 (SP1), 98 and Me
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP]

Windows 2000 and XP
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkStation\Parameters]

Windows NT
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rdr\Parameters]

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, named "EnablePlainTextPassword" and set it to equal "1" to enable plain text passwords.

Use the Tools/Map Network Drive option in Explorer to map a network drive directly to the Unix share. For example, \\Kenny\dev specifies the path to a Samba share named dev on the Unix host Kenny.

Sharing data in the opposite direction works similarly. The Unix program smbclient supports browsing and connecting to Windows shares. For example, to connect to C$ on a Windows NT computer named Cartman, type the following at the Unix command prompt

smbclient \\\\Cartman\\c$ -U username

You can also use the DOS net command ofcourse....
net use z: \\computer\folder

Are you including the domain / computer name in the username?

Never heard of Samba, just thought I'd ask :)

in the screen for the mapping we enter an ipadddress and the share name, then we choose different username and pw... and it should work...
BTW, with windows NT it does work... so the service is operational, and can be connected. but windows XP f*cks it up....

It is possible somehow...
But i dont know what regkeys need to be changed more,
or what has to be changed in the SMB.CONF file...
