I have problems with Java, and in particular the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. I keep getting messages that I need to download the program, when I do that, it finishes in 2 seconds, but I still can't use the MSJVM. Or anything Java. But I do have a Sun Java console built in to Internet Explorer and Java options. But I still have to download the program, over and over again, without any effect.
So I downloaded the installation file, j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p, and tried to modify or deinstall/reinstall. Both options did gave an error about some previous installation, you could let the installer fix it. The only thing that happened was that there were no modifications or the PC restarted itself just before completing the (de)install.
And so I still can't use Java. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
