Could attach your dxdiag ?

Go to start => Run and there type dxdiag. Once done, on the first tab click the Save all info button. Save it as a txt file and attach it to your reply here.

It would help us in finding any software problems on your computer. :)

Are you the same person that I replied to on the Generals board ?

If not, I try the following:

1) Make sure the cd is clean.

2) Try the cd in another drive if you can.

3) On your hard drive, find the file that is referenced in the error message. Right-click the file in the Search Results windows, and then choose Properties. Clear the checkmark from Read-only under the Attributes section. Click OK

4) If you have any, try uninstalling any cd copy programs you might have. If that solves the issue, make sure you've updated that software till the latest version.

1) Empty your temp Folder.
2) Close any background programs.
3) Try installing in safe mode
4) Copy the setup folder from the cd to your harddrive. Then run the setup from your harddrive (leave cd in the cdrom).

Is there a file on your E:\ drive called "Command Conquer Generals.msi"?

I did not read your problem on the C+C forums, but it sounds like you have a defective disk and you tried to make an image of it? If the disk was damaged you most likely copied the defect in the image you made. What is the exact problem that made you try and run from an ISO image?

The msi file is the startup for Generals setup. You may want to copy that to the harddrive as well. Better yet, usually when I have an issue instaling something, I copy the full contents of the cd over to my harddrive. If you have enough space, give it a try..

Have you tried getting a new cdrom drive ? I think the problem could also be the ISO image (with the increasing protection of cd's I mean)..

I will tell you right now that an ISO image will not work. Plain and simple. As Doc points out the copy protection that is part of the disk will not allow you to play from a copied image. It must be played from the original disk.  Were you able to install Generals on the Laptop you made the ISO image on? If you can install on the laptop that makes me think there is something wrong with your CDROM drive on the other system.
