Can anyone tell me the best way

Well I got my ASUS, can someone tell me how I can install windows on it without damaging my data files too much ?
As it is a different board I will have to install XP on it.

Is it possible to install win xp without re-formatting my HDD ?

I couldn't back up anything on the Giga because it wouldn't post.

What data files are you referring to ?

What you could do is move everything that you want to keep to a different directory on the same drive. Once done, delete the Windows folder and re-install.

Doc, I can't move any files, this is a different MOBO I have had to install ?

Just boot the system up with your new mobo, windows automaticly installs the new components, it can?t be that much, if you?ve got an Asus with the 875 chipset. Most components will be the same.

But a fresh install is the best

Thanks Rottevis.
It worked , I am now the proud owner of an ASUS P4C800-E-Deluxe !

The only thing is my Hardrive is running as a slave, I have never had to bother with jumpers before, to set it to master must I remove the jumper ?

It's a MAXTOR 120 MB 8Mb cache ATA 133.

Also my CD R won't spit the Cd tray out , no light on it either ? Is there an internal fuse on it ?
It's an HP CD writer.

It's being recognised by windows but nothing happens when I push the eject button.

Finally should I enable Q-fan in the BIOS ? ;D

On the top of your harddrive, it should state what jumper setting to use to make it master.

As for your cdrw, I can't tell you if it has a fuse..

Does one of you have Q-fan enabled in the BIOS.
Also Doc mentioned the overclocking automatic feature in The ASUS BIOS, how do I do this and or where ?

I do not have the Q-fan enabled.

As for the overclocking, in your BIOS, go to advanced and select Jumperfree and choose the percentage. When your system hangs, you've set it to high...

I'm running it at 5% overclocked 2.956Ghz and it is still running at 29? C. ;D

No particular reason.

I've noticed that if you overclock it too much, your system will lockup in 10mins or so. Try the test on the PC pitstop site. If it completes that, you're save :)

Did that ! score was 1685 ! ;D

Just got back from ALDI, heh heh ! new USB 2.0 Scanner for 40 GBP.
Oh and a 128MB USB memory drive, also USB 2.0.

So I am happy now with my ASUS. ;D
